Yaroslav Srokovski (born August 11, 1961 in Lviv ) is a German chess player who is eligible to play for the Ukrainian Chess Association. He has held the FIDE title of International Master (IM) since 1993 .

Career and occupation

He completed his studies (from 1978 to 1982) at the sports university in Lviv (Ukraine) as a qualified chess trainer . He received the following trainer licenses: A-trainer of the German Chess Federation and in 2009 FIDE Senior Trainer (highest of the five FIDE trainer titles). In 1985 he was awarded the Chigorin Medal for the best coaches in the USSR . In 1986 he was honored as the Honored Coach of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Ministry of Sports as the best coach in Ukraine. From 1985 to 1992 he was the head coach of the high-performance school at the Lviv Sports University. From 1992 to 1993 he worked as a chess trainer in Yugoslavia before moving to Germany in 1994. Since 2003 he has been the state trainer of Baden-Württemberg and trainer of the Baden-Baden Chess Center.

His students included Marta Litinskaja , Ekaterina Borulya , Florian Handke , Swetlana Matwejewa as well as Andrij Maksymenko and Mychajlo Kosakow . Under his leadership Marta Litinskaja won the interzonal tournament twice, in 1985 in Zheleznovodsk (USSR) and 1987 in Smederevska Palanka (Yugoslavia). She also took third place twice at the Candidates Tournament in Malmö (Sweden) in 1986 and Zchaltubo (USSR) in 1988. Ekaterina Borulya won the Open German Women's Championship in 1994, was tied first at the 33rd German Women's Championship in 1995 and was awarded with the OSG Baden- Baden German team champion in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2008.

Chess successes

Yaroslav Srokovski played 1992 with good success in international tournaments in Be'er Scheva and Kecskemét , whereupon he was awarded the IM title in 1993.

After moving, he played team fights in Germany and international tournaments from 1994, for example in Enghien-les-Bains in 1995 , where his wife Ekaterina Borulya did better than him. At that time Igors Rausis was first before Étienne Bacrot .

Since his job as a chess trainer occupies him to the full, he has been inactive since 2007. Most recently he played in the 2. Bundesliga South, 2005/06 season. Srokovski's Elo rating has remained unchanged at 2431 since July 2006. His best rating was 2453, which he achieved in July 2003.

family

Yaroslav Srokovski is married to the German chess grandmaster Ekaterina Borulya and has had German citizenship since 2000. They have two children: Alexander Srokovskyi and Andrea Jaqueline Srokovskyi, who also have chess successes. In 2007 Andrea was German Vice-Champion U10 and third in the German Youth Championship U12 and U14. Alexander's best result was a shared first place at the Baden Youth Championship U14.

There are also different spellings for him: besides Yaroslav Srokovski also Jaroslav Srokowski (FIDE), Yaroslav Srokovskiy and Yaroslav Srokovskyi (different passports).
