Marta Ivanovna Litinskaja , née Schul ( Russian Марта Ивановна Литинская ; born March 25, 1949 in Lviv , Ukraine ) is a Ukrainian chess player and mathematician .

Under her girls' man Marta Schul ( Ukrainian Шуль , FIDE: Shul), she took part in Soviet women's championships several times and won them in 1972.

She played in the 1973 women's interzonal tournament on Menorca (shared 2nd to 5th place). She lost the semi-finals of the candidate competitions for the women's world chess championship against Nana Alexandria in 1974 in Riga . At the 1976 women's interzonal tournament in Tbilisi , she was fourth, also at the 1979 women's interzonal tournament in Alicante .

Due to her international success, Marta Litinskaja received the title of International Women's Champion (WIM) from FIDE in 1972 and the newly introduced Women's Grand Master's title (WGM) in 1976 .

She participated in four women's chess Olympiads . In 1988 she played on the first reserve board for the Soviet Union. The team took second place, and Marta Litinskaja also received an individual silver medal for her result of 9.5 points from 12 games. In 1992 , 1994 and 1996 she played on the second board of the Ukrainian national team. In 1992 she won the silver medal with the team. She also won the 1992 European Women's Team Championship with Ukraine .

Litinskaja played in the German women's league from 1996 to 2001 for the Krefeld chess club Turm 1851 , in the Polish team championship from 1993 to 1997 for GKS Gedania Gdańsk .

In 1977 she won the international women's tournament in Bad Kissingen ahead of Gisela Fischdick and took 6th place at the interzonal women's tournament in 1982, also in Bad Kissingen. Nona Gaprindashvili won the interzonal tournament in 1982.

Marta Litinskaja became senior world champion in Naumburg an der Saale in 2002 .

Litinskaja is listed as inactive by FIDE, as she has not played a rated game since the Senior Women's World Cup in October 2004 in Halle (Saale) .

Correspondence chess

She was also a strong correspondence chess player. With the Soviet national team ( Olga Rubzowa , Marta Schul, Luba Kristol and Lyudmila Belawenez ) Marta Litinskaja won the gold medal at the 1st Correspondence Chess Olympiad for women in front of the team of the Federal Republic of Germany ( Juliane Hund , Edith Mechelke, Elke Beyer and Rita Heigl ). The Soviet team (Olga Rubzowa, Lora Jakowlewa , Marta Litinskaja, Lyudmila Belavenets) also won the gold medal at the 2nd Women's Correspondence Chess Olympiad.
