The Krefeld chess club Turm 1851 eV is one of the oldest and largest German chess clubs . It was founded in 1851 on the occasion of Adolf Anderssen's victory in the international tournament in London . The club hosted numerous international tournaments, German championships and international matches . The greatest success of the men was the 4th place in the German team championship in 1938. After establishing a women's Bundesliga , the club was able to record a runner-up (1991) as well as the cup wins in 1996 and 1997 for itself. The first women's team is currently playing in the second Bundesliga. In 1985 the city of Krefeld provided the club with a clubhouse, which Grandmaster John Nunn ( GB ) described as the best in the western hemisphere . The club currently has 157 members (as of May 2017) and takes part in the leagues with numerous teams .

  • In 1985 Renate Schmidt became German girl champion.
  • In 1991, Anke Koglin became the German women's champion.
  • In 1992 the women's team was able to secure the runner-up in blitz chess .
  • In 1994 Ekaterina Borulya won the Open German Women's Championship.
  • 1996 The women's team from the Krefeld Chess Club wins the German Cup.
  • 1997 The title of the women's team can be successfully defended.
