Smederevska Palanka ( Serbian - Cyrillic Смедеревска Паланка ) is a city in Serbia in the Podunavlje district . It has about 25,300 inhabitants and is located on the Jasenica .
history
The name of the city has an eventful history. The city was first mentioned in writing in 1021. The document is kept in St. Catherine's Monastery in Egypt. The place name changed in the course of the times from Aspri Eklesija, Bink Palanka, Jeni Palanka, Velika Palanka, over the Ottoman name Hasanpašina Palanka from 1463, to today's Smederevska Palanka. Smederevska Palanka stands for a place with the fortress type Palanke in the former Sanjak Smederevo .
economy
The main employers in the municipality are mainly industrial companies and agriculture . Well-known is the wagon construction company GOŠA , which produces for JŽ and Železnice Srbije , among other things, the special train “ Plavi voz ” of the Yugoslav President Tito .
Events
One of the oldest fairs in Serbia has been taking place in Smederevska Palanka since 1834, the Krstovdanski Vašar , and there is also the annual Best Fest Palanka , a rock festival at which bands such as Bajaga and Riblja čorba performed. The Motorijada is another event organized by the city, at which various rock bands perform, for example Divlje Jagode played in 2011 .
