Podunavlje ( Serbian Подунавски округ, Podunavski okrug ) is a Serbian administrative district in the north of the Serbian heartland. In terms of area, it is the smallest of all Serbian districts.

According to the 2002 census, this district has a population of 226,589. The main administrative seat is the city of Smederevo .
history
Smederevo was the capital of Serbia in the 14th century , where the palace of the Serbian prince Đurađ Branković stood . The palace was completed in 1430 and includes the palace itself, the chapel and the house of the royal family. At the old town cemetery there is an old church from the 14th century, which temporarily served as the royal family's treasury.
economy
Smederevo is economically important both for the district and nationwide, as some of the leading companies are based in the city. These include metal processing companies, e.g. B. “Zelvoz”, which develops technologies for passenger transport, and “Fragram”, which manufactures construction machines, excavators and cranes. There are also “Tehnogas”, “Jugopetrol” and “Lasta” as companies that play an important role in the dynamic development of the district's economy.
