The Okrug Kosovska Mitrovica ( Serbian Косовско-Митровачки округ Kosovsko-Mitrovački okrug ) is a Serbian administrative district and is located in the northern part of the province of Kosovo and Metohija .

On February 17th, 2008 the parliament of Kosovo declared independence. Since then, the status has been internationally controversial and the Serbian district division only exists in theory.

In contrast to other, more southern parts of Kosovo, the district is inhabited by a particularly large number of Serbs, who make up the majority of the population in some communities.
