Zlatibor (Златиборски округ or Zlatiborski okrug) is an administrative district ( Okrug ) in Serbia . It extends over the western part of the country and with 6,140 km 2 is the largest of all Serbian districts in terms of area.
According to the 2002 census, the district has a population of 335,826. Its main administrative seat is the city of Užice . It is named after the Zlatibor Mountains , which are up to 1496 m high in its center .

Religious sites
One of the oldest monuments in this region is the White Church ( Bela Crkva ) in Karan , built between 1340 and 1342 . There are also two churches in Užice, both ancient and interesting: Sv. Marko Church (completed in 1828 ) and the Church of St. George the Great Martyr (built from 1842 to 1844 ).
The Rača monastery from the 13th century stands in the vicinity of Bajina Bašta . In its long history, this monastery was almost completely destroyed and rebuilt several times, the last time in 1943 when Rača was burned down by the Bulgarian army. However, after the Second World War , it was renovated again and stands as a symbol of Serbian culture and resilience.
Miloševo Monastery, in the Prijepolje area, was built between 1218 and 1219 and was originally a foundation of King Stefan Vladislav , son of Stefan Radoslav . Over 100 compositions , frescoes and fragments have been preserved. The most famous of these is the “White Angel” fresco, which is depicted today in many books, monographs and internet presentations.
economy
The most famous companies in this region are the copper and aluminum mines in Sevojno, the metal group Prvi Partisan , the textile manufacturer Froteks and the clothing manufacturer Kadinjača . The FAP car factory is located in Priboj , and its trucks and buses were among the best in the world before the war .
