Nova Varoš ( Serbian - Cyrillic Нова Варош ) is a small town in the south-west Serbian mountain region between the Zlatibor , Murtenica, Javor, Golija and Zlatar mountain ranges , 280 km south of Belgrade . It is the administrative seat of the Opština Nova Varoš .
geography
The city was built at an altitude of 953 m at the foot of the Zlatar Mountains and is not far from the Zlatar Reservoir on the Belgrade - Bar main road . There are three more reservoirs in the vicinity of Nova Varoš - they are mainly used to generate electricity , but are also used for tourism. Due to its high altitude, the air in Nova Varoš is considered pure, which is why spa tourism and winter sports developed in this region.
The area of the municipality of Nova Varoš is 584 km². Administratively, the municipality belongs to the Zlatibor District ( Zlatiborski Okrug ).

According to the 2002 census, 90% of the population consider themselves Serbs .
history
Nova Varos was until 1913 under the Turkish name Yenivaroş the Sanjak of Novi Pazar .
