Michael Sommer (born March 2, 1964 in Stuttgart - Bad Cannstatt ) is a German ultramarathon runner .

He celebrated one of his greatest international successes in 1994 at the 100 km World Cup of the International Association of Ultrarunners (Internationaler Ultra Runner Association - IAU), which took place in Kitami as part of the Saroma Lake 100 km Ultramarathon . Together with Kazimierz Bak and Lutz Aderhold he was team world champion.

In 1995 he ran at the international German championships of the DUV as second in the 50-kilometer run in Rodenbach behind the Briton Shane Downes over the finish line. With his time of 2:58:34 h, he set the German record for this distance and was the second German runner after Kazimierz Bąk to stay below the 3-hour mark. In 1997 he won the Bienwald Marathon in a time of 2:27:53 h. At the Biel running days , Michael Sommer finished fourth in 2000 and 2008 over 100 km. In 2003 he finished third in the 100 km road running world championships . In 2004 he came third in the Swiss Alpine Marathon and won the Fidelitas 80 km night run in Karlsruhe .

In addition, Sommer was nine times German champion in the 100 km run. He won his first title in 1995, from 2003 to 2008 he won six times in a row and in 2011 he was able to win the title again. With over twenty participations in international championships over this distance, he took several podium places in the team standings. He achieved his best individual result in 2003 when he came third at the World Challenge in Taiwan . In the 50-kilometer run, Sommer was twice German champion (1995, 2005).

Michael Sommer is 1.76 m tall and weighs 58 kg. He starts for EK Schwaikheim, is married and has three children.
