Michael Fietz

Michael Fietz (born November 13, 1967 in Bochum ) is a former German long-distance runner who had his greatest successes in the marathon .

In 1996 he ran 2:18:43 hours in the Berlin Marathon and came in seventh in the German championship that was being held at the same time. The following year was to be his most successful: He was German Vice Champion in 5000 Meters and half marathon , finished in the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in Kosice twelfth place in his personal best of 1:01:18 hours and stood at Frankfurt Marathon with 2:10:59 h set a course record. The following year he came in at the European Athletics Championships in 1998 in Budapest on 19th place and was fourth in the Frankfurt Marathon.

In 2000, he beat the Olympic standard in 12th place in the Rotterdam Marathon with 2:11:28 h. At the Olympic Games in Sydney , he finished 37th.

In 2001 he was overall eighth of the Frankfurt Marathon German marathon champion in 2:16:23 h. In 2002 he failed in an attempt to crack the European Championship norm and was tenth in the Cologne Marathon later that year . In 2003 he won the national title for the second time as the overall winner of the Rhine-Ruhr Marathon , although the moderate time of 2:23:17 h was partly due to the extreme heat. He tried a comeback at the 2004 Frankfurt Marathon, but gave up after 30 km.

The 1.81 meter tall and 65 kg heavy athlete started for the TV Wattenscheid 01 and the LG Ratio Münster .
