Karl Wolf (athlete)

Karl Johann Friedrich Wolf (born February 2, 1912 in Ladenburg , † March 1, 1975 in Tübingen ) was a German hammer thrower .

Career

Karl Wolf grew up in Ladenburg and played up to the age of 16 football . After he began an apprenticeship as a baker in Karlsruhe , he began in 1928 with the local game association Germania Karlsruhe with heavy athletics. As was customary at the time, he operated wrestling , weightlifting and lawn power sports , which consisted of hammer throw , stone throwing and weight throwing . It soon became apparent that he had the greatest talent for lawn power sports and, here, for hammer throwing. For this reason he specialized in this sport. An agreement between these associations enabled the hammer throwers of the heavy athletics association DASV v. 1891 the start with the athletes. Karl Wolf was active for a very long time, he was able to place at German championships from 1937 and then from 1946 to 1953. During this time he competed twelve times in the national jersey. In 1953 he completed his successful career with the title of German Master in Hammer Throw.

  • German runner-up in hammer throw in 1948 behind Karl Storch and ahead of Karl Hein , in 1950 behind Karl Storch and ahead of Karl Hagenbucher and in 1952 behind Karl Storch and ahead of Erwin Blask;
  • Third in the German championships in 1937 behind Karl Hein and Erwin Blask, in 1946 behind Karl Hein and Karl Storch, in 1947 behind Karl Hein and Karl Storch;
  • Personal best in hammer throw: 58.91 m thrown on June 15, 1952 in Karlsruhe

Professional background

Karl Wolf was a successful master baker from Karlsruhe. He was the founder of the purchasing cooperative of the bakery and confectionery trade in Karlsruhe, head master of the Karlsruhe bakers' guild and deputy state guild master of the bakery trade.
