Erwin Kern (born August 23, 1888 in Pfirt, today Ferrette ; † March 20, 1963 in Schönau in the Black Forest ) was a German sprinter .

At the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912, he set the first official world record in this discipline in the 4 x 100 meter relay together with Otto Röhr , Max Herrmann and Richard Rau (42.3 s). In the final, however, the German quartet was disqualified after a mistake. Kern reached the semi-finals over 100 meters .

In 1913 he became German champion over 100 and 200 meters . In the same year he won the German University Championship over 100 meters. At the German Championships in 1915 he was second over 100 meters and in 1916 he reached third place over 200 meters.

Erwin Kern started for SV Altkirch, Viktoria Mannheim and TSV 1860 Munich . After graduating, he became a pharmacist and in 1920 took over a pharmacy in Schönau. He was also the first chairman of the athletics district of Upper Rhine from 1923 to 1938.
