Among the founders was the silk goods manufacturer Carl Albrecht Delius , who also took over the chairmanship of the association. This association was dissolved in 1854 and re-established under its current name on October 18, 1859. A year later, the club inaugurated its gym on Kesselbrink . This made BTG the first club in Westphalia to have its own gym. In 1870 the association had to sell this hall to the city. In 1883, the Bielefelder TG donated the Jahn bust on Jahnplatz in memory of the "gymnastics father" Friedrich Ludwig Jahn .

The gym on Paulusstrasse, which was built in the meantime, was destroyed in the Second World War.
