Georg Wilhelm Amberger (born July 31, 1890 in Hanau-Steinheim , † February 6, 1949 in Karlsruhe ) was a German athlete and Olympic participant.
Amberger took part in the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm . In the competition over 1500 meters , he was eliminated in the preliminary round. In the team race over 3000 meters , he and his teammates failed in the first round at what would later be the silver medalist from Sweden.
He later specialized in middle-distance running. In 1918 and 1920 he became German champion in the 800 meter run . He also won bronze in the 400-meter run in 1920 and achieved an unofficial world record of 1: 06.0 min over the rarely run distance of 500 meters. In 1921 he was with the team of the Karlsruhe FV German runner-up in the 3 x 1000 meter relay race, in 1922 and 1923 he won bronze in the 400 meter hurdles at the German championships .
Starting in 1919 for the Berlin Sports Club, Amberger then came to Karlsruhe as a high school teacher, where he initially managed the training of the Karlsruhe FV as an active member. After his active career, Georg Amberger became a sports teacher and in 1923 switched to the re-established athletics department of the Karlsruhe FC Phönix. He also received a visiting professorship at a university in Lörrach . From 1921 to 1923 he was the press officer of the Baden Athletics Association. He also worked for the association in other functions. In 1921 he was also managing director and in 1925 the head of the women's team. In 1923 he wrote the book Der Lauf .
