The Großer and Kleiner Petznicksee are two lakes with a rich fish population in the Zerweliner Heide ( Uckermark ). The Great Petznicksee is a groundwater lake with a size of about 14 hectares with only a small periodic inflow and a temporarily dry artificial outflow. The Kleine Petznick has an area of about 3.5 hectares, is much flatter and is almost completely overgrown with mummies .

The forests around the lakes were replanted as a mixed forest at the beginning of the 20th century after a strong bark beetle infestation of the pines, which had been kept in monoculture until then. The felled trees were processed in a mobile sawmill. The Great Petznicksee was an interim storage facility for the felled trees. It is believed that some of these trees are still stored at great depths of the lake, which hinders fishing with ground nets.

This part of the Zerweliner Heide with the two lakes belonged to the von Arnim-Boitzenburg family , who maintained a hunting lodge on the hill next to the lake. This hunting lodge was used for military purposes during the Second World War and was completely destroyed towards the end of the war. There are still foundations of a bathhouse in the forest on the hill on the southern bank of the Great Petznicksee. After the Second World War, the von Arnim-Boitzenburg family was expropriated. In the GDR , this area was a restricted military area due to the dislocation of FLA missile department 174 (later renamed FRA-234 ). The old forester's house "Zerwelin" on the east bank of the lake was used as a hunting seat for military celebrities ( Colonel General Reinhold ). Stables and an overgrown orchard with old fruit varieties belonged to this old forester's house. On the lakeshore, there were still remains of old "washing jetties" to be seen until 1990, where laundry was previously washed in the lake. In the 80s, the old half-timbered forester's house on the Großer Petznicksee was demolished due to dilapidation and a bungalow in the GDR style was built on the foundation walls. This was removed again after the military office was closed and the property was transferred back to the former owners, and a new building was built to match the old farm building and the stables.
