Wolfgang Reinhold (born April 16, 1923 in Berlin-Friedrichshagen ; † September 2, 2012 in Bad Saarow-Pieskow ) was a German colonel general . He was Deputy Minister for National Defense and Head of Air Force / Air Defense Command of the National People's Army .

Life

The son of a driver learned the trade of salesman from 1938 to 1940. From 1940 to 1941 Reinhold was account manager at the Beamtenbank Dresden. From 1941 to 1945 he served in the air force , most recently as a sergeant . From 1945 to 1949 Reinhold was a Soviet prisoner of war . During this time he attended an Antifa school and was a member of the camp activists.

After his discharge, he first worked as a lathe operator at VEB Carl Zeiss Jena , then as a teacher and headmaster at the state youth school for pioneer leaders in Saxony. In 1950 he joined the SED , became a sector leader in the Central Council of the FDJ and in May 1952 came to the barracked People's Police through the "FDJ contingent for the armed protection of the republic" . Reinhold served, among other things, from 1952 to 1954 as the commander of the CIP service center in Cottbus . From 1956 to 1957 he was commander of the 3rd Air Defense Division . After attending a military academy in the USSR from 1957 to 1958, Reinhold was employed in various positions in the Kdo LSK / LV from 1958 to 1965. He was appointed major general on October 7, 1963. Reinhold studied at the General Staff Academy of the USSR from 1965 to 1967 as a graduate military scientist. After his return he became "Deputy Head of LSK / LV and Chief of Staff".

As the successor to Major General Herbert Scheibe , Wolfgang Reinhold was head of the LSK / LV command from March 1972 to November 1989 . On December 1, 1972, he was also Deputy Minister for National Defense. On March 1, 1974 he was promoted to Lieutenant General and on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the founding of the German Democratic Republic in 1979 to Colonel General. From 1981 to 1989 Reinhold was a candidate for the Central Committee of the SED .

On December 31, 1989, Wolfgang Reinhold retired, as did the long-time chief of the land forces (LaSK), Colonel General Horst Stechbarth , and the Head of the Political Headquarters, Colonel General Horst Brünner .

Wolfgang Reinhold was married and had three children.

His son Ralph Reinhold, now Lieutenant Colonel of the Air Force of the Armed Forces , died as commander of the TU-154M that on September 13, 1997 collided off the coast of Namibia with an American military transport .
