Horst Brünner
Horst Brünner (born February 21, 1929 in Buchwald ; † June 19, 2008 in Blankensee ) was Deputy Minister for National Defense in the Council of Ministers of the GDR and head of the main political administration of the National People's Army .

The son of a bricklayer learned the profession of industrial clerk from 1943 to 1946. In 1946 he became a member of the FDJ . After joining the SED in 1948, Brünner was employed in the Löbau District Police Department. From 1949 to 1951 he was a political officer at the VP School in Pirna . Brünner served in various positions in the KVP before he became deputy commander and head of the political department in the 6th Mot.-Schützen-Division ( Prenzlau ) from 1956 to 1958 . From 1959 to 1962 this was followed by a stay as an officer auditor at the military academy of the NVA "Friedrich Engels" in Dresden . From 1962 to 1965 Brno was head of department in the Political Administration of the Ministry of National Defense .
Then he switched to the border troops for three years . Horst Brünner graduated from the General Staff Academy of the Soviet Union from 1968 to 1970 with a degree in military science. After his appointment as major general on March 1, 1971, he was Deputy Chief of Military District III ( Leipzig ) and Head of Political Administration. In 1972 Brno moved to the Ministry of National Defense. There he served in the main political administration. On the 20th anniversary of the founding of the National People's Army on March 1, 1976, Horst Brünner was promoted to lieutenant general. In the same year he became a candidate and in 1986 a member of the Central Committee of the SED . From 1985 to 1989 he succeeded Heinz Keßler as Deputy Minister for National Defense and Head of the Main Political Administration. In this capacity he was promoted to colonel general on March 1, 1987. Brünner was one of eleven officers who were promoted to this rank. On March 26, 1986, he was elected chairman of the Army Sports Association Forward . From 1986 to 1989 he was a member of the National Defense Council . In roughly the same period, from 1986 to March 17, 1990, Brünner was a member of the People's Chamber . Horst Brünner, like Colonel General Horst Stechbarth and Wolfgang Reinhold , was dismissed from active service on December 31, 1989.
Condemnation in the wall rifle trials
Brünner was indicted in the wall rifle trials in April 1998 and sentenced on July 24, 1998 before the 28th Large Criminal Chamber of the Berlin Regional Court in the same proceedings as Manfred Graetz , Wolfgang Herger and Heinz Tappert to two years imprisonment on probation for aiding and abetting manslaughter .
