Heinz Tappert

Heinz Tappert (born May 15, 1928 in Senitz , Reichenbach district ) is a German former officer in the National People's Army of the German Democratic Republic . Most recently he held the rank of lieutenant general .

Life and military career

As the son of a worker, Tappert learned the trade of a businessman from 1942 to 1944 after graduating from high school, then was sent to a military training camp of the Wehrmacht and in 1945 to the Reich Labor Service , where he was captured by the Soviets.

After his release from captivity, Tappert was an economic assistant from late 1945 to 1948. In 1948 he joined the SED . His entry into the armed organs of the GDR took place on September 15, 1948. In these Tappert worked until 1949 as head of the office and accounting officer in the People's Police department in Quedlinburg . Then in 1949 he was transferred to the VP office in Rostock , where he was paying agent manager until 1952. From 1951 to 1952 he acted as an auditor on the staff of the head office for training . He then came as an officer in the Inspection Department of the Barracked People's Police, where he was employed in the Finance Administration Unit. In 1955 he became deputy head of the finance administration and head of the inspection department in the staff of the Barracked People's Police. In 1956 he was promoted to Deputy Head of Finance Administration in the Ministry of National Defense (MfNV). He held this position until 1959. There he rose to their boss from 1959 to 1976. During this time, he was appointed major general on March 1, 1967 . In 1976 Tappert was appointed head of finance at the MfNV, where he was promoted to lieutenant general on October 7, 1977. He held this position until his release on February 28, 1990.

Condemnation in the wall rifle trials

As a participant in the wall rifle trials on July 24, 1998 before the 28th Large Criminal Chamber of the Berlin Regional Court in the same proceedings as Manfred Graetz , Wolfgang Herger and Horst Brünner , Tappert was sentenced to one year suspended prison sentence for aiding and abetting manslaughter .
