Herbert Scheibe (born November 28, 1914 in Hohenmölsen ; † February 7, 1991 in Berlin ) was a German Colonel General and Chief of the Air Force / Air Defense Command (Kdo. LSK / LV) of the National People's Army .

Life

As the son of a worker, he was raised by his grandparents, both of whom were members of the KPD . After attending a twelve-grade school in basic subjects, he learned the profession of typesetter . From 1930 to 1933 Scheibe was a member of the Communist Youth Association of Germany (KJVD). During the Third Reich he was mostly imprisoned, among others in Zwickau prison and in Buchenwald concentration camp .

After 1945

In 1945, Scheibe became a member of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). On June 1, 1945, he joined the German People's Police in what was then the Soviet Occupation Zone (SBZ). From 1945 to 1948, Scheibe was deputy head of the criminal police in Leipzig and from 1948 to 1949 head of the Kripo in Görlitz . The following year he was sent to the USSR for a special course . After his return he served in Prenzlau with the local police station. From 1951 until the founding of the National People's Army in 1956, Scheibe was employed in various positions and areas of the Barracked People's Police .

Promotions

From 1956 until the beginning of his studies at the General Staff Academy of the USSR in 1957 he served in the Ministry of National Defense (MfNV) as head of the intelligence administration . After his return from the Soviet Union, he became deputy head of the main staff and head of the operational administration in the MfNV. From 1960 to 1967 he was deputy head of the LSK / LV and chief of staff in the LSK / LV command. In 1967 Herbert Scheibe was appointed commander of the NVA air force / air defense and head of the LSK / LV command . Herbert Scheibe was active in this prominent top application until 1972.

Party official

Disk was a candidate since 1967 and from 1975 to 1986 a member of the Central Committee of the SED . From 1972 until his discharge from active service on March 15, 1985, Colonel General Scheibe was the successor to Lieutenant General Walter Borning as head of the department for security issues of the Central Committee of the SED .
