Sokolce (Hungarian Lakszakállas , partly also Lak ) is a municipality in southwest Slovakia with 1190 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located in Okres Komárno , part of the Nitriansky kraj .
geography
The municipality is located in the Slovakian Danube lowlands , more precisely in the eastern part of the Great Schüttinsel . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 112 m nm and is five kilometers from Veľký Meder and 30 kilometers from Komárno .
Administratively the community consists of two cadastral communities. These are Sokolce-Lak and Sokolce-Turi (place name "Turský Sokolec", incorporated in 1940, in Hungarian Túriszakállas ).
Neighboring municipalities are Okoč in the north, Kolárovo and Bodzianske Lúky in the northeast, Bodza in the east and south, Holiare in the west and Brestovec in the northwest.
history
Sokolce was first mentioned in writing in 1332 as Laak and was owned by the Laky family from 1387 to the 18th century ; other landlords from the 16th century onwards included the Pázmány and Zichy families . The village went under due to constant Turkish wars , but was rebuilt in the 17th century. The main sources of income for the inhabitants were agriculture, basketry and weaving.
Turský Sokolec was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1268 and belonged to the estate of the Komorn Castle , then to the Thury family. Other landlords came from the families Püspöky (1631), Amadé (18th century) and Ghiczy (19th century).
Until 1918/1919, the places in Komorn County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. As a result of the First Vienna Arbitration Award , both places were once again part of Hungary between 1938 and 1945.

According to the 2011 census, Sokolce had 1218 inhabitants, including 1106 Magyars , 94 Slovaks , 10 Roma and 2 Czechs . 6 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .
606 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, 329 residents the Reformed Church, 13 residents the Evangelical Church AB and 9 residents the Greek Catholic Church. 229 residents had no denomination and 32 residents had no denomination.
