history
In the 6th century there was an Avar settlement near the Aba hill . For the most part of the Middle Ages there are no written records about Martovce, but already in 1075 there was a no longer existing village Gég between the Waag and the Nitra, the inhabitants of which probably founded Martovce at some point. Other surrounding settlements included Aba (1244), Vék (1247) and Agyagos (1307). The first written mention comes from 1438 as Marthos . An important source of income was fishing, which was underlined by the presence of the royal ponds in the area. In the 16th century the village was devastated by Turkish troops. In 1572 there were 10 houses in the village. Another problem for the village was the frequent flooding, the danger of which could not be reduced until the late 19th century. In the 18th and 19th centuries the inhabitants were employed as fishermen, basket makers, farmers and cattle farmers. In 1907 there were 229 houses and 1,155 inhabitants.
Until 1918/1919 the place in Komorn County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In 1935, the residents built their own culture center. As a result of the First Vienna Arbitration Award, Martovce was once again part of Hungary between 1938 and 1945.
