View in the settlement of Hliník

The present municipality was established in 1968 through the merging of six settlements: Čergov (from the municipality of Nesvady), Hliník, Malý Kindeš, Veľký Kindeš (from the municipality of Martovce), Ostrov and Zlatá Osada (from the municipality of Kameničná) and the separation of parts of the municipality previously mentioned parishes.

Historically, the area was first mentioned in 1075, when there was a now defunct settlement called Gég . The still existing settlement of Hliník was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1386. The other settlements only emerged in the second half of the 19th century after the surrounding swamps had been drained.

The area in Komorn County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918/1919 and then became part of Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. As a result of the First Vienna Arbitration Award , it was once again part of Hungary between 1938 and 1945.
