Radvaň nad Dunajom (Hungarian Dunaradvány - until 1863 Radvány ) is a municipality in southwest Slovakia , with 704 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which belongs to Okres Komárno , a district of Nitriansky kraj .
geography
The municipality is located in the extreme south of Slovakia on the left bank of the Danube in the Slovakian Danube lowlands . On the opposite side of the Danube is the Hungarian municipality of Neszmély . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 120 m nm and is 20 kilometers from Komárno and 30 kilometers from Štúrovo .
Administratively, the municipality is divided into the municipality parts Bystrička (Hungarian Baloghpuszta ), Radvaň nad Dunajom and Žitava (also "Žitavská Tôň"; Hungarian Zsitvatő , older Zsitvatorok ).
history
The district Žitavská Tôň is an important archaeological site, with finds from the older Bronze, Hallstatt and Roman times. The capital was first mentioned in writing in 1267 as Radowan . In the past fishing and milling were important, today the majority of the population works in agriculture.
A significant event is the peace of Zsitvatorok , which was concluded on November 11, 1606 , which ended the Long Turkish War and which remained in force for almost 60 years.
Until 1919, the place in Komorn County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia . Due to the First Vienna Arbitration Award , he was again in Hungary from 1938-45.
