Číčov (Hungarian Csicsó ) is a municipality in southern Slovakia in the Okres Komárno .
It is located in the Danube plain ( Podunajská rovina ) at an altitude between 111 and 114 meters in the southeastern part of the Schüttinsel near the Danube and the border with Hungary. The district town of Komárno is about 22 kilometers east of the village. More than 90 percent of the population are Hungarians. The community is divided into the main town and the localities Kéč ( Kécs puszta ) and Krížový Dvor ( Kereszt majer ).
history
The location was already a settlement in the Neolithic, at the time of the Scythians, Romans and Quads. He was first mentioned in writing as Sysou in 1172 . In 1526 the place was occupied by the Turks, who remained the rulers for 150 years. Until 1918 the place belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary (in Komorn County ), after which it came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia . After the First Vienna Arbitration , he came back to Hungary from 1938 to 1945, since then the village has belonged to Czechoslovakia and, since 1993, to Slovakia .
Attractions
- Classicist castle from 1776, externally redesigned in the 2nd quarter of the 19th century. The property belonged to Counts Zichy von Zich and Vásonykeö since the middle of the 17th century and later until 1945 to Count Kálnoky von Kőröspatak ; then used as a school, now again owned by the Kálnoky family.
- Panny Márie Nanebovzatej Roman Catholic Church from 1660
- classical reformed church from 1784
- former monastery from 1889
The Číčovské mŕtve rameno nature reserve is located near the village, and extends around a dead arm of the Danube with alluvial forests.
