The FC Pfalz Ludwigshafen was a German sports club from Ludwigshafen . It was founded in 1903 and existed until 1937, when the club was forcibly merged with FC Phönix Ludwigshafen to form TSG 1861 Ludwigshafen .

history

The association was founded on August 22, 1903 by former middle school students under the direction of Franz Belle in the Boos restaurant . Initially, the team played at Austraße, in 1907 the club moved to a site near the Raschig factory in Lagerhausstraße. In the 1905/06 season , Ludwigshafen was already the soccer champion of the Gaus Pfalz, but withdrew in the north circle finals. Also in the 1906/07 season the Palatinate Gaume Championship could be won again, but the club had no chance in the subsequent finals. In 1907/08 the areas were re-subdivided, and from then on there were four districts: Northern District, Eastern District, Southern District and Western District. Pfalz Ludwigshafen played in the Westkreis, which was won in the first season. In the subsequent final round of the southern German football championship, Pfalz was last with just one win out of six games. Until the beginning of the First World War, the club remained in the top division of the western district.

In 1915/16 , Pfalz Ludwigshafen again won the Westkreis in the final against Mannheimer FC Phönix 2-1. In the subsequent southern German soccer final, the former German soccer champions Freiburg FC were beaten 7-1 in the second leg in the semifinals on July 23, 1916 . Thus, on July 30, 1916, the Ludwigshafeners were in the final of the southern German soccer championship against 1. FC Nürnberg . In the end, he was too strong and Ludwigshafen lost 4-1. In 1916/17 the club qualified as western district champion again for the south German finals, but was inferior to the other clubs in a group of four. After the First World War, the areas of the South German Football Association were changed again, the Ludwigshafen clubs from then on played in the Rhine district . Pfalz Ludwigshafen prevailed again in the 1919/20 season and again played in the final round of the southern German soccer championship. In the semifinals, Freiburg FC was beaten 5-0, in the final Ludwigshafen met Nuremberg again and lost the game 5-0. In the years to come, the club was unable to build on these successes. The local rival FC Phönix Ludwigshafen was now number one in Ludwigshafen. Palatinate Ludwigshafen was able to hold the first-class Rhine regional league until 1924/25 before the club had to relegate. For the season 1927/28 the promotion was successful, the league could be held for two seasons.

FC Pfalz Ludwigshafen could not qualify for the Gauliga Südwest , founded in 1933 . The club played in the lower leagues of the football region. In the final stages of the 1936/37 season, under pressure from the National Socialists, the clubs Pfalz Ludwigshafen , FC Phönix Ludwigshafen , TuFC Ludwigshafen , TV 1861 Ludwigshafen , Stemm- und Ringclub Ludwigshafen and Kanu-Club Ludwigshafen were merged to form TSG 1861 Ludwigshafen . The Palatinate and Phoenix had the idea of a merger for a long time, without being able to bring themselves to a decisive step. After the end of the Second World War , TSG Ludwigshafen was dissolved. The Pfalz Ludwigshafen association was not newly founded, but stayed with Phönix Ludwigshafen and merged with SV Phönix 03 Ludwigshafen .
