The 1907/08 South German soccer championship of the Association of South German Soccer Clubs was won by FC Stuttgarter Cickers unbeaten in the final tournament, seven points ahead of 1. FC Nürnberg and 1. Hanauer FC 1893 . This was the first win of the South German soccer championship for the Stuttgart, who qualified for the German soccer championship 1907/08 . There the team met a representative from the south, the defending champion Freiburg FC . The quarter-final game played in Pforzheim in front of 2000 spectators ended with a scandal: The Freiburg players wanted to leave the pitch when the score was 1-0 because the Cickers protested against referee decisions. The German Football Association then imposed a fine of 100 marks on the Breisgauer and started the game again. In this replay, which was played on the KFV-Platz in Karlsruhe, the Degerloch won 5: 2. FC Stuttgarter Cickers pushed through to the final after beating Duisburg SpV . Without the injured Otto Löble and Karl Reich, the Cickers Viktoria 89 Berlin lost 1: 3.

Mode and overview

From this season onwards, the association area was divided into four instead of three districts, because the Palatinate clubs now formed an independent area with the creation of a western district. The final round of the southern German championship, to which the district champions were qualified as before, was no longer played in the knockout system from this season , but in a round-robin tournament between the four district champions.

North circle

Curiously, the relay division in the northern district ran right through the city of Frankfurt, so the clubs from the western district of Bockenheim were divided into the Gau Westmain, while Victoria, Kickers and FSV played in the Südmain relay. In the final round, the Frankfurt clubs only played a minor role, with 1. Hanauer FC 93 securing the northern district championship ahead of Mannheim's Viktoria . During the final round another city championship of the Frankfurt Association-Bund started in Frankfurt , which Germania 94 won.

East circle

In Bavaria, 1. FC Nürnberg prevailed for the third time in a row , and they had just as few problems keeping their opponents at a distance in Gau Middle Franconia as they did in the final round of the Eastern District Championship. Outstanding in the FCN team at this time was the storm with Haggenmiller, Steinmetz and Philipp , as well as center runner Hertel and defender Aldebert. In the region, due to the successes, people already spoke of the "club" with great respect, until this epithet was also able to establish itself nationwide, but it would take a few years, because in the southern German finals initially the clubs from the southern district continued to dominate.

The
1. FC Nürnberg team proudly presents itself as the "Champions of Bavaria 1906/07/08".

Southern district

Last year's champions prevailed in all three seasons of the southern district. The defending champion of the Südkreis and reigning German champions Freiburg FC had to cope with numerous departures this season (goalkeeper Paul von Goldberger, for example, moved to Frankfurt in autumn 1907, defender Louis C. de Villiers returned to his native South Africa) and only made it to the final round last place. Also "old master" Karlsruher FV performed surprisingly poorly, lost a game against Freiburg FC and was clearly defeated by the new southern district champion Stuttgarter Kickers with 0: 7. The Swabians around the young center forward Otto Löble turned out to be the strongest team on the southern German level after they won the first district championship. For the coming season there was a single-track top division for the southern district.
