Frankfurter Association Bund

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Frankfurter Association Bund (FAB) was a local football association in Frankfurt am Main . The name is explained by the fact that the members played Association Football , i.e. football according to the rules of the English Football Association . The FAB was founded in March or July 1900 by three Frankfurt clubs and organized a first championship round in autumn 1900. When the federal government dissolved is not known, the last documented season took place in 1907/08.

history

There is different information about the year (and date) of the FAB and the founding associations. In the first football yearbook of the DFB March 1900 was mentioned, in later memories of FAB pioneers it was mentioned that it was founded in 1899. The Frankfurter Association Bund itself mentioned the beginning of July 1900 as the foundation date in its first seasonal report on the 1900/01 season. The founding clubs were probably the Frankfurt FC Germania 1894 , the Frankfurt FC Victoria 1899 and the Frankfurt FC 1899 . The first Bockenheimer FC 1899 came allegedly shortly after the founding of the federal government in while the Frankfurt FC 1899 resigned before the start of official matches again and therefore did not participate in the first championship round. According to other sources, Germania 94, FFC Victoria and 1. Bockenheimer FC founded the FAB.

The three last-named carried out the first championship round 1900/01 from the beginning of September to the beginning of November 1900, since the final round of the southern German championship began on November 11th. Victoria and Germania ended the round tied, which meant a play-off was due. With a 1-0 victory on neutral ground in Bockenheim, Germania won the first Frankfurt championship. Nevertheless, all three member clubs of the FAB were eligible to take part in the final round of the southern German championship.

In the 1901/02 season the game was played for points in two classes. First class champion was Victoria, defending champion Germania only ended up in last place. Of the twelve championship games due in the four-league, however, only seven were actually played. Five games did not take place at all due to a waiver or failure to play.

In 1902/03 five clubs took part in the first class championship, Victoria was able to successfully defend its title. Due to the hostilities among the clubs that were common in those early years and at the same time dissatisfaction with the decisions of the association's board, Germania and Hermannia resigned from the Frankfurt Association Bund.

For the 1903/04 season, the Association of South German Football Associations (VSFV) led a point game operation for the first time and formed three circles for this. The Frankfurt clubs played in the newly created Westmaingau within the northern district. But the FAB also continued its own game operations, now in the spring, after the local point games in the VSFV and the end of the finals for the southern German championship. FAB champions 1903/04 were the first time the Frankfurter Kickers .

In 1904/05 the FAB championship should only be held in a single round on neutral courses. There was little interest in this additional local championship, so only a few clubs took part. This heralded the end of the FAB after five years. In the following two years there were apparently no competitions of the FAB, the probably last championship was held in 1907/08.
