The South German soccer championship 1912/13 of the federation of South German soccer clubs won the FC Stuttgarter Cickers in the final tournament with one point ahead of the Frankfurt FV and the VfR Mannheim . The final round was only decided in the last game, which the Kickers won 1-0 against Frankfurt FV. This was the second win of the southern German soccer championship for the Stuttgart, who qualified for the German soccer championship 1912/13 . There, the Kickers were eliminated in the quarterfinals after a 1: 2 defeat against Duisburg SpV .

Mode and overview

The competition format remained unchanged compared to the previous season, in four circles were teams in the round robin tournament against each other, the four district champion then played the South German football champions in a final round. In all four districts, the number of teams in the top tier, now called "league class" or "league" for short, was reduced to eight. The bottom of the table in each case had to relegate to the A-Class, which is now the second-highest level. The A-classes were divided into several seasons depending on local conditions and played the promoted into the league class.

The Frankfurter FV decided the championship clearly in his favor and remained unbeaten, only Victoria 1894 Hanau and Kickers Offenbach were the FFV wrest a draw. Nevertheless, this success was long in question, because a dispute at the "green table" ignited about the use of the newcomer Frigyes Weicz in the first game of the FFV against Wiesbaden (4: 0). The Hungarian came at the start of the season from FV Amicitia and in 1902 , who was excluded from the game due to the crowd riots in the preseason that year. At the time of the opening game, the FFV had not yet received his player pass. As a result, the association was blocked by the Südmaingau authority for four months in November, but this was lifted shortly afterwards after an objection by the northern district authority, which was headed by the FFV chairman Hetebrugge. As a result, several clubs addressed a resolution to the VFSV demanding that the ban be maintained. However, the association finally confirmed the north district championship of the Frankfurter FV, whereby the game in question against Wiesbaden was rated as lost.

The Frankfurt FC Germania had to go into the second division for the first time at the end of the round, last year's relegated Germania Bieber succeeded in direct promotion.

The team from Fürth, supervised by William Townley , turned out to be invincible in the Ostkreis League this year and became champions by a large margin. Only the local rivals from Nuremberg and FA Bayern in Munich SC were able to wrest a draw from the "clover leaves" (both games ended 1: 1), but were left behind at Fürth Sportpark Ronhof with 4: 2 and 5: 1 respectively.

The TV München 1860 rose for the first time since the existence of the Ostkreis in the second division, the VfB Nürnberg returned for the season 1913/14 in the Bavarian upper house.

Southern district

In the southern district the performance density was very high this season, at the end of the season there were only 8 points between the leading teams and the relegated Sportfreunde Stuttgart . The German runner-up from 1908, FC Stuttgarter Cickers , won the title race after a playoff against 1. FC Pforzheim tied on points . The defending champion Karlsruher FV , who had clearly dominated the events in the southern district in the previous season, only finished fourth, three points behind.

Sportfreunde Stuttgart, who had to do without their national player Eugen Kipp , who had migrated to the Kickers this year , were relegated to the bottom, while FC Mühlburg managed to gain direct promotion.

Final round of the southern German championship

In the southern German finals, things were much more exciting this year than in the previous season. The championship was only decided in the last game between FC Stuttgarter Cickers and Frankfurter FV . In this "final" - Frankfurt would have been enough to draw, the Kickers had to win to become champions - the Kickers finally got the upper hand with 1-0 and pushed themselves in front of the football club in the final accounts. However, the association had to deal with two protests during and after the end of the final round: VfR Mannheim protested against the rating of the game, which was lost 5-0 in Stuttgart-Degerloch, because one of its players was bitten by a dog on the pitch . And the SpVgg. After the 0-1 home defeat against Frankfurt, Fürth complained about the alleged unplayability of the pitch, the storm that arose during the game and the supposedly illegal goal (the goal judge had reported handball, the referee stayed with his decision). The protests were rejected, but at least recognized as justified insofar as the clubs were reimbursed the protest fee of 500 marks.

The FC Stuttgarter Cickers , which was trained this season by the English coach Charles Griffiths , who left FC Bayern Munich , then went with the current national players Otto Löble , Eugen Kipp and Christian Schmidt as a favorite in the finals for the German championship, but were already divorced in the quarterfinals against Duisburg SpV 1: 2.
