The Stuttgarter SC is a sports club with sports such as football, tennis, cycling, mini golf and gymnastics from Stuttgart . The club became known for its footballers, who were top notch until the 1940s.

history

The club was founded on July 18, 1900 as FC Union Stuttgart and played in the top division, the southern district league, before and during the First World War, but mostly only occupied the back seats. In the last year of the war, however, FC Union succeeded - albeit in a heavily thinned field - to advance to the finals of the southern championship, where they failed at 1. FC Nürnberg. In August 1919 Union Stuttgart merged with SV 1908 Gablenberg to form Stuttgarter SC.

After Emil Gröner, a national player, had already been set up in 1921 , the soccer team of the Stuttgart SC managed to return to the top division in 1923. In the Württemberg / Baden district league, in addition to local rivals Stuttgarter Kickers and VfB Stuttgart , they also met Freiburg FC and Karlsruher FV . As the bottom of the table in the 1928/29 season , the sports club had to relegate from the top division, but as early as 1932 they were promoted again and, as a newcomer, qualified for the Gauliga Württemberg, which was created as the new top division in 1933 . The club belonged to the Gauliga until 1942. The Stuttgarter SC ended the season mostly in the lower half of the table. The most successful season was the 1939/40 season , when they finished second in League Season I behind VfB Stuttgart.

After the Second World War, the sports club was initially assigned to the Landesliga Württemberg, which was created under the Oberliga Süd as the second highest division. After the state league in 1950 became the 1st amateur league Württemberg , one belonged to this class until relegation as bottom of the table in the 1955/56 season. One of the greatest successes came in 1955 when they won the WFV Cup .

After the Stuttgart sports club belonged to the first amateur league again in the 1963/64 season and from 1972 to 1974, the club disappeared from the higher-class football leagues.

Today the Stuttgarter SC plays in the leagues of the Stuttgart football district.

Venues

The Stuttgarter SC played since 1910 on a sports field on the slaughterhouse grounds in Stuttgart- Gaisburg . In 1924 the club moved into a new sports field in the vicinity of the Stuttgart-Gaisburg gasworks , which opened with an international match between Germany and Switzerland (1-1). In 1956 the "Platz am Gaskessel" had to be given up because of the expansion of the gas works. Since then, the Stuttgarter SC has been based on the festival meadow on the opposite bank of the Neckar .
