The Gauliga Württemberg 1939/40 ( officially: Sports division class Württemberg ) was the seventh season of the Gauliga Württemberg in football . Because of the outbreak of World War II , the championship was suspended after the first match day in September 1939 and regional transition rounds were played. On November 26th, the Gauliga game was finally started, but instead of the usual division of ten, the division class was divided into two seasons of six teams each due to transport problems and the late start, with the relegated teams of the previous season , SpVgg Cannstatt and SV Feuerbach , were also included and thus remained first class. The winner and the second-placed team of the two relays qualified for the final round of the Württemberg regional championship, which the Stuttgarter Kickers won with one point ahead of VfB Stuttgart . As Württemberg champions, the Kickers qualified for the final round of the German championship , where they were eliminated as third in the preliminary round.
