Venues of the Gauliga Württemberg 1942/43

The Gauliga Württemberg 1942/43 was the tenth season of the Gauliga Württemberg in football. The championship was won by the teams of VfB Stuttgart and the Stuttgarter Kickers with equal points . Both clubs were recognized as Wuerttemberg champions, VfB Stuttgart represented Wuerttemberg at the final round of the German championship, as the Kickers decided not to play a decider for sporting reasons.

At first everything looked like a sovereign championship for the Stuttgarter Kickers. VfB Stuttgart had fallen far behind after two defeats against Sportfreunde Stuttgart (0: 5) and against Kickers (3: 4) and were finally able to bury their title chances after a 1: 3 at Union Böckingen . But then the Kickers blundered against the Feuerbach sports association , and because VfB's 1: 3 was converted into a victory at the Green Table in Böckingen, the championship was open again. After VfB took over the top of the table after three wins, they lost 1-0 at home to Sportfreunde Stuttgart, who now also had a chance of winning the championship. On March 7, 1943, the decisive game between VfB and the Stuttgarter Kickers took place. In front of 7,000 spectators on the Adolf Hitler arena, VfB won 6-2 and took the lead in the table. Even a final 7-2 victory over VfR Heilbronn did not help the Kickers , as they lacked a goal to defend their title. Due to the two points won at the Green Table, the Gausport leadership set a playoff that the Kickers did without. In the meantime, they had had to give up several players, including Edmund Conen , Albert Sing , Eugen Kipp junior and Hans Walz , and felt no longer capable of participating in the final round of the German championship. So VfB Stuttgart came to their fourth participation in the finals, where they had no chance with a weakened team. In front of 15,000 spectators, they lost 3-0 against TSV 1860 Munich in the first round .
