The gymnastics and sports club 1880 Neu-Ulm is a sports club from Neu-Ulm in Bavaria . With around 1,800 members, the club is one of the largest sports clubs in the region. The football department of the club is organized in the Württemberg Football Association .

history

The association was founded in 1880 as TV Neu-Ulm . On December 3, 1946, he merged with local rivals SSV Eintracht Neu-Ulm to form TSG Neu-Ulm . In November 1950 the club gave itself its current name.

The football department of TSV Neu-Ulm first attracted attention in 1967 when it was promoted to the 2nd amateur league Württemberg. In Group 3, in which the club also met local rivals TSG Ulm 1846 and FV Illertissen , the promoted team reached fifth place in the table in his first season. In the following years the team established itself in the front midfield of the league. In 1971, the club missed promotion to the 1st amateur league only because of the poorer goal difference as runner-up behind SV Rehnenhof tied on points . A year later, the second place was achieved again, but the promoted VfR Aalen had clearly dominated the league and was seven points ahead at the end of the season.

In 1973, the TSV Neu-Ulm soccer team won their league relay by one point after a duel with VfL Kirchheim / Teck . The higher-class 1st amateur league, however, turned out to be too strong for the Neu-Ulm team and as penultimate they were relegated directly from the Stuttgart SC , the SC Geislingen and the TV Validstein . As fifth in the table, the TSV missed the direct rise. In 1978 the team qualified for the newly founded Landesliga Württemberg .

After years in the lower league, TSV Neu-Ulm rose again in 2006 from the district league Donau / Iller to the state league. There were places in the middle of the table in the first few years, before relegation to the district league took place again after the 2008/09 season. In 2016 you could return to the national league. After relegation in the following year, it was possible to achieve direct resurgence in 2018.
