The Southern German football championship 1906/07 of the Association of Southern German football clubs won the Freiburger FC in the final round finale by a 3: 1 win against 1. FC Nürnberg . This was the second win in the southern German soccer championship for Freiburg, who qualified for the German soccer championship in 1906/07 . After a bye in the quarter-finals and a victory in the semifinals over the favored VfB Leipzig (3-2), who had been unbeaten in the German championship finals , the Breisgauer reached the final. In this game against Viktoria 89 Berlin , the Freiburg FC went as an outsider, but prevailed against the Viktoria-Elf, which was peppered with stars like Helmut Röpnack , 3-1 and became German football champions for the first time.

Mode and overview

The mode of play changed in this game year insofar as the eastern district was newly created for the two Bavarian squadrons that were previously assigned to the southern district. 1. FC Nürnberg was the first to qualify for the final round of the VSFV , 1. Hanauer FC 93 won the North District and Freiburg FC the South District Championship. The South German champions were determined for the last time in the final round of this season between the three district champions in the knockout system .

North circle

This year the northern district was divided into six districts, the masters of which determined the northern district champion in a double round. This fragmented structure, which resulted in the fact that only four teams competed against each other in Südmaingau - after the disqualification of the Frankfurt Hermannia - was significantly tightened in the following seasons. The first Hanauer FC 93 turned out in the northern district finals counterparties as far superior and entered the South German finals.
