Hermann Franz Bodenweber (born June 5, 1883 in Freiburg im Breisgau , † December 30, 1953 in Hamburg ) was a German football player . He held the unusual record of becoming North and South German champions in the same season (1906/07) with two different clubs . That was not the rule, but was ultimately tolerated by the responsible associations.

Career

Hermann played alongside his brother Fritz Bodenweber at Freiburg FC until the autumn series of 1906/07 . He then went to Hamburg for professional reasons and joined FC Victoria in 1895 . There was trouble when in May 1907 the FFC used both brothers again in the semifinals of the South German Championship . The defeated opponent, Hanau 93 , protested against this and the Freiburg team was temporarily threatened with disqualification. Only a board meeting of the VsFV on 8./9. June of the same year solved the problem by deciding that Bodenweber was eligible to play for Freiburg "because he was not registered by any other association for the German national championship". Initially, “the documents received” would have suggested otherwise. The Breisgauer had meanwhile (!) Also become German champions , without Hermann, but with Fritz.

In a historical review of the Freiburg FC, both brothers are mentioned and the club's writer points out that in the championship year 1907 "middle runner Mayer [..] occupied the important position for Hermann Bodenweber, who had recently moved to Hamburg".

In March, Hermann Bodenweber had already played for Victoria in the final of the North German Football Championship in 1907 . His “real” first season in 1907/08 was the first class championship, organized by NFV District III , Hamburg-Altona district, as a champion with Victoria. He also played a part in defending his title in 1909 and played representative for Hamburg several times .

In its commemorative publication 55 Years of Freiburg Football Club from 1952, the club presents it differently on page 16 than the association at the time: Hermann was "not eligible to play" for Victoria and therefore "the Hamburgers only used him in friendship meetings". The latter does not seem to be true.
