The South German soccer championship 1913/14 of the Association of South German Soccer Clubs was won by SpVgg Fürth in the final tournament with three points ahead of the Frankfurt FV . This was the first win in the southern German soccer championship for the people of Fürth, who qualified for the German soccer championship in 1913/14 . Fürth reached the final there and became German football champions after a 3-2 win after extra time over VfB Leipzig . The final went down in history with 160 minutes of play as the longest game in the German championship to date, as Karl Franz only scored the decisive goal to make it 3-2 in the fifth extra time .
Due to the outbreak of the First World War in August 1914, no association games were played in the 1914/15 season. Instead, there were regional war games, but there was no association championship. Regular gaming was not resumed until 1915/16.

Southern district
There was also a déjà vu in the southern district: At the end of the season, the Stuttgarter Kickers and 1. FC Pforzheim were tied again at the top of the table, so that, as in the previous year, a playoff had to decide the championship. The Kickers clearly defeated FCP 4-0. "Altmeister" Karlsruher FV crashed to the bottom of the table . In previous years, coach Townley had been separated and a number of important players in the championship had left the club for professional reasons or ended their careers. Breunig, for example, played in Pforzheim this season, Hirsch followed Townley to Ronhof and was with SpVgg. Fürth German master, Hollstein now devoted himself to his studies.

Western district
VfR Mannheim was again the western district champion ahead of local rivals MFC Phönix 02 . In this round, SpVgg Metz represented a representative from Lorraine in the top division of the western region for the first time . The club, which was only founded in December 1912, however, proved to be non-competitive and only achieved a draw in 14 games.

Final round of the southern German championship
The SpVgg. Fürth only lost the opening game in Frankfurt and then gave up no more points. One of the highlights of the final round was the guest appearance of the future champions at defending champions Stuttgarter Kickers, where the team turned a 0-1 deficit before the break, countered in the second half after equalizing twice with the renewed lead and finally won 4-3 . Up to 10,000 spectators could be thrilled at the local Ronhof and all three opponents clearly beat.
The 22-year-old top scorer Karl Franz fell at the front in Lorraine in September 1914, three other players in the championship - Sebastian Seidel , Hans Jakob and Frigyes Weicz - also died the "heroic death" during the First World War.
