Fritz Nottbrock (actually Friedrich Nottbrock; born July 30, 1910 in Mülheim ; † March 16, 1997 in Cologne ) was a German hurdler and sports official .

biography

Fritz Nottbrock came from a middle-class family; his father had been running the Rheingold pharmacy in Mülheim since 1909 . He graduated from the boys' grammar school on site. For the summer semester of 1929 he enrolled as a student at the University of Cologne . First he studied mathematics , physics and chemistry , later he switched to philology and sports . He finished his studies in the winter semester of 1933/34. He also completed training as a sports teacher and worked as such at the University's Institute for Physical Education from around 1932. After his father died in the early 1930s, he began studying pharmacy at the University of Bonn , which he completed in 1936.

Nottbrock began his sporting career as a gymnast at TV 1850 Mülheim , he played hockey and took part in athletics competitions as a teenager . From 1929 he started for the ASV Köln , which he founded that year together with a fellow student. From 1932 to 1934 he was its president. In 1931 he became city ​​champion with the ASV fistball team . From 1932 onwards, he concentrated on the middle-distance running . In 1932 and 1933 he was German champion in the 400 meter hurdles . After his league title in 1932, he was registered for the Olympic Games in Los Angeles . His start there was only possible with the financial help of private sponsors and his mother, as the association did not have the funds and he had to raise a travel allowance of 3,000 marks.

At the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 1932 , Nottbrock was eliminated from the semifinals despite a personal best of 53.7 s. In 1936 in Berlin he also reached the semifinals.

In 1937 Fritz Nottbrock Gaufachwart became a specialist in athletics in Gau XI (Middle Rhine). He held this office until 1940. A Nazi -Membership of Nottbrock has not been established, although the West German observers from him in 1933 as " SA reported -man". In 1940 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and used as a field pharmacist. In the same year he took over his father's pharmacy in Cologne-Mülheim, which was now run by an employee. In 1945 he returned from a Soviet captivity.

In the following decades, Nottbrock was primarily involved as an organizer of competitions and events. From 1950 on he organized the Cologne Pharmacists Ball for 20 years . The ASV-Sportfest was established under his leadership in 1952 , and he was its director until 1968. In 1950 he was awarded the DLV gold needle, and in 1981 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit.

Nottbrock worked in his pharmacy until the age of 80. He died in 1997 at the age of 86. He was married to Friedeliese Nottbrock, b. Rosary. His grave is in the forest cemetery in Schildgen .
