Elisabeth "Liesel" Schumann was a German athlete who started for Schwarz-Weiß Essen .

For ten years between the wars she was among the world's best in javelin throwing . The following achievements are listed for them (placement in brackets on the world's best list):

  • 1925: 30.73 m (7th place)
  • 1926: 34.50 m (3rd place)
  • 1927: 34.29 m (9th place)
  • 1928: 39.04 m (2nd place)
  • 1929: 38.87 m (1st place)
  • 1930: 42.32 m (1st place)
  • 1931: 40.93 m (2nd place)
  • 1932: 41.45 m (5th place)
  • 1933: 41.92 m (1st place)
  • 1934: 37.38 m (place 24)
  • 1935: 39.82 m (18th place)

In 1933, with a width of 39.35 m, she became German champion ahead of Gerda Link and Tilly Fleischer , after having previously been runner-up three times in a row.

She celebrated her greatest success in 1930 at the Women's World Games in Prague , where she won the gold medal with a throw over 42.32 m and her compatriot Auguste Hargus (40.99 m) and the Japanese Kinue Hitomi (37.01 m) on referred to places 2 and 3. In the same year she won the silver medal at the German Athletics Championships .

At the 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam did not take part because the javelin there was not on the agenda. In 1932 in Los Angeles , Germany was represented by Ellen Braumüller and Tilly Fleischer, who took second and third place.
