Auguste Hargus

Auguste "Guschi" Hargus (also Augustine Hargus , born November 15, 1909 in Lübeck ; † January 2, 1995 there ) was a German athlete who was a successful javelin thrower from the 1920s to 1930 .

She was the German javelin throwing champion in 1926, 1927 and 1930.

At the international women's competitions in Berlin, she improved the world record set by Lonta in the javelin throw by more than 4 meters to 37.575 m.

At the Women's World Games in 1930, she reached second place (40.99 m).

In 1927 and 1928 she set three world records:

  • 37.575 m, June 12, 1927 in Berlin
  • 38.36 m, June 30, 1928 in Bremen (unofficial world record)
  • 38.39 m, August 18, 1928 in Berlin

Auguste Hargus belonged to the sports club LBV Phönix Lübeck , for which she later also played hockey ; Twelve times she was appointed to the national hockey team until 1939 . At a height of 1.71 m, she had a competition weight of 65 kg.

On April 19, 1951, she received the Silver Laurel Leaf for her longstanding sporting achievements.
