Joachim Büchner (born April 8, 1905 in Altenburg , † February 22, 1978 in Leverkusen ) was a German athlete who won the bronze medal in the 400-meter run at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam .

He also started at the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles in the 400-meter run (sixth in the semifinals; eliminated) and with the German 4-by-400-meter relay (4th place in the final).

On September 1, 1927, he set a German record over 400 meters in Magdeburg (48.2 s) and improved it a year later on September 2, 1928 in Berlin by 0.6 seconds to 47.8 s. He was the first German under 48 seconds in the 400-meter run. This record was only broken nine years later by Rudolf Harbig .

Joachim Büchner started for Viktoria 96 Magdeburg . From 1927 to 1929 he was three times German champion over 400 meters, in 1931 and 1932 he was runner-up behind Adolf Metzner . In his playing days he was 1.76 m tall and weighed 74 kg.

He attended the Leipzig Art Academy. After the Second World War he lived in the Leverkusen forest settlement in Schlebusch , where he had already settled with his family before the war. He worked as an advertising specialist.
