Willy Schröder

Wilhelm "Willy" Schröder (born March 7, 1912 in Magdeburg ; † September 28, 1990 in Gersfeld (Rhön) ) was a German athlete and Olympic participant who was successful as a discus thrower in the 1930s .

On April 28, 1935, he set a world record in Magdeburg with a width of 53.10 m . At the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin , he finished fifth (44.79 - 47.22 - 45.01 - 47.39 - 47.81 - 47.93 m ). At the European Championships in Paris in 1938 , he won the gold medal (49.70 m). Schröder was German champion in discus throwing in 1936 and 1937, and in 1938 he reached third place. He belonged to the sports club Viktoria 96 Magdeburg , later to the police SV Berlin . At a height of 1.84 m, he had a competition weight of 87 kg.
