Piotr Małachowski (born June 7, 1983 in Żuromin ) is a Polish discus thrower who became European champion in 2010 and world champion in 2015.

In 2008 he set his fourth Polish record on July 27th in Sopot with 68.65 m and won the silver medal at the Olympic Games in Beijing with 67.82 m behind Gerd Kanter (EST) and in front of Virgilijus Alekna (LTU). His best competition to date was the 2009 World Championships in Berlin . In the final he was a new Polish record in the first attempt with 68.77 m and increased this record in the fifth attempt to 69.15 m. He has been the competition leader since his first attempt and was only overtaken with the last attempt by German starter Robert Harting with 69.43 m. Malachowski thus won the silver medal. The following year Małachowski improved his best performance in Gateshead to 69.83 m. Shortly afterwards he threw the discus at 68.87 m at the European Championships in Barcelona and won his first gold in an international competition with a lead of forty centimeters over Robert Harting. At the World Championships 2011 in Daegu Małachowski was ninth and at the Olympic Games in London 2012 he reached fifth place.

At the 2015 World Championships in Beijing , he won the gold medal in the absence of the injured Robert Harting, as well as at the 2016 European Championships in Amsterdam . At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , Małachowski finished second again, this time behind Robert Harting's brother Christoph. He auctioned the silver medal he won on a Polish auction platform for the benefit of a child with cancer to support expensive treatment in the USA.
