Anthony Washington

Anthony Washington (born January 16, 1966 in Glasgow, Montana ) is a former American discus thrower .

Washington won the discus throw at the Pan American Games in 1991 . The following year he was twelfth at the Olympic Games in Barcelona , and at the 1993 World Championships in Stuttgart , he finished eleventh.

On May 22, 1996 he threw his personal best in Salinas with 71.14 m. At the Olympic Games in Atlanta , the German Lars Riedel won the fifth attempt with 69.40 m. After the first attempt, Anthony Washington was in the lead with 65.42 m, but could not improve any further and was surpassed by the two Belarusians Wladimir Dubrowschtschik and Wassil Kapzjuch as well as by Riedel . Washington finished fourth ahead of Virgilijus Alekna and Jürgen Schult .

In 1999 Anthony Washington won his fourth US championship after 1991, 1993 and 1996. After 1991 he won the PanAmerican Games for the second time. At the 1999 World Championships in Seville , Jürgen Schult led after the fifth round with 68.18 m ahead of Lars Riedel and Virgilijus Alekna. In the last round Washington managed a throw of 69.08 m and he surprisingly became world champion.

At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 , Anthony Washington was twelfth again.

After graduating from Syracuse University , Anthony Washington worked as a graphic designer during his athletic career. With a height of 1.86 meters, his competition weight was 109 kg.
