Pentti Kahma
Pentti Kahma ( Pentti Aatos Kahma; born December 3, 1943 in Alavieska ) is a former Finnish discus thrower .
After he was eliminated in qualifying at the 1969 European Championships in Athens , he reached a grand final in front of a home crowd at the 1971 European Championship in Helsinki for the first time. He finished sixth with 60.64 m and was only 98 centimeters behind second-placed Lothar Milde . The following year he was ninth at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich with 59.66 m.
Kahma celebrated his greatest success at the 1974 European Championship in Rome. With 63.62 m he defeated the defending champion and reigning Olympic champion Ludvík Daněk with 62.76 m and the co-owner of the world record Ricky Bruch with 62.00 m and won the European title in discus throw as the only Finn to date.
At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal , he was sixth with 63.12 m.
He was Finnish champion seven times (1970, 1971, 1973–1976, 1978). He set his personal best of 66.82 m on May 24, 1975 in Modesto .
With a height of 1.88 m, his competition weight was 112 kg. His older brother Markus Kahma was successful as a decathlete.
