Modesto is a city in Stanislaus County in the US state of California , United States , with 214,211 inhabitants (as of 2017) and the seat of the county administration.
The urban area has a size of 93.1 km². It is the place of origin of George Lucas , who shot his film American Graffiti here . Even Sonny Barger , founder of the Hells Angels , was born here. The largest wine producer in the world, E. & J. Gallo Winery , is based here.
