Levon Frederick "Fred" Agabashian (born August 21, 1913 in Modesto , California , † October 13, 1989 in Alamo , California) was an American racing driver .

Career

Agabashian was particularly successful in sprint and midget car races. Between 1947 and 1958 he competed in 22 races of the AAA / USAC National Series , one of which he was able to win (1949 in Sacramento ).

Between 1950 and 1960, the Indianapolis 500 mile race was part of the Formula 1 World Championship . Since Agabashian took part in the 500 miles 8 times between 1950 and 1957, he has made eight World Championship starts. The best place was a fourth place in 1953 on a Kurtis Kraft 500B- Offenhauser , but he had to share this place with team-mate Paul Russo , who took over his car. There were only half points for shared places in Formula 1 world championship races in the 1950s. In 1952 he started in Indianapolis with a Kurtis Kraft- Cummins from pole position , but failed on the 71st lap with damage to the supercharging.
