Harve Presnell (born George Harvey Presnell , born September 14, 1933 in Modesto , California , † June 30, 2009 in Santa Monica , California) was an American film and stage actor .

Life

Harve Presnell graduated from the University of Southern California after high school and then trained as an opera singer . He was on stage for the first time at the age of 16. In November 1960, Presnell appeared on Broadway in the musical The Unsinkable Molly Brown in the role of husband of the Titanic survivors Molly Brown ( Tammy Grimes ). By February 1962 he had 532 appearances in this role. His engagement in the musical Annie was also successful , in which he was on stage a total of 2,377 times from April 1977 to January 1983.

From the early 1960s on, Presnell has appeared in films and television series. From the mid-1990s, he became a sought-after character actor after his role as the malicious father-in-law of car salesman Jerry Lundegaard (played by William H. Macy ) in the film Fargo by the Coen brothers . In series as diverse as Star Trek: Spaceship Voyager , Dawson's Creek , but above all as Mr. Parker in Pretender , he was seen in concise roles. He has also appeared in multiple award-winning film productions such as Saving Private Ryan by Steven Spielberg in 1998 and in Flags of Our Fathers by Clint Eastwood in 2006 . He played one of his last roles in 2007 as a congressman in the comedy film Evan Almighty .

Presnell was married twice. He has three children from a first marriage. From 1966 until his death he was married to Veeva Suzanne Hamblen. Presnell died of pancreatic cancer on June 30, 2009 at the age of 75 at Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica.
