Family Man (Original title: The Family Man ) is an American comedy film directed by Brett Ratner from 2000 .

action

Jack Campbell is happily engaged to Kate Reynolds, but the two lovers part ways when they both want to do a year of training. Shortly before Jack is about to leave for his year of training in London, Kate begs him at the departure gate not to fly, but to stay with her. Jack does it anyway and says it would only be for a year.

Many years later, Jack lives in New York City . He is a single, professionally very successful and extremely rich stockbroker. He is indifferent to the upcoming Christmas festivities, and he demands this attitude from his employees as well. On the eve of Christmas he meets the African American Cash in a supermarket when he tries unsuccessfully to redeem a lottery ticket from the skeptical shopkeeper. Jack watches the process for a while and after Cash draws the gun, when the shopkeeper continues to refuse to redeem the lottery ticket, Jack tries to mediate. Before the whole thing escalates, he buys the ticket from Cash and walks out of the store with him. Little does Campbell know that Cash is some kind of angel. In a short conversation on the street, he assures Cash that he has everything he needs in life. Cash said to him he wasn't so sure. In order to convince Jack of the opposite, he gives him a very real insight into his future life, if, as Kate had longed for at the time, he would not have flown to his apprenticeship year but stayed at home.

Campbell wakes up in a New Jersey house the next day . He is married to Kate and has two children. In this version of reality, he has an easy job as a tire dealer and not a lot of money. Campbell is frightened at first, but slowly gets used to his alternative life as a family man. Only when he has accepted his new fate does he wake up in his real life.

Jack finds Kate, who is about to leave for Paris , where she is to take over the management of a new office. Kate, like Jack, is not married in real life and is a successful single lawyer. He tells her the vision he has had of a family with her and tries to keep her from flying to Paris, which he ultimately succeeds in doing. At the end, you see Jack and Kate in a coffee shop . How it will ultimately go on and whether they will start a family remains open.

The lexicon of international films wrote: “Christmas story based on relevant models without any finesse in the production. The few amusing scenes are lost in the mendacious and one-dimensional construction. "
