Jeremy Piven (born July 26, 1965 in Chicago ) is an American actor . He was best known in the US for his role as Ari Gold in the comedy Entourage , for which he won a Golden Globe Award and 3 Emmy Awards .

Life

Piven attended Drake University in Des Moines , Iowa after graduating from Evanston Township High School . He was part of the ensemble of the Piven Theater Workshop, which was founded by Piven's parents Byrne and Joyce Hiller Piven. Piven has appeared at the side of his close friend and fellow actor John Cusack in several films . Cusack and his sisters Joan and Ann are also among the graduates of the Piven workshop.

One of Piven's early roles was Spike in Lucas (1986). Piven's first major role came in 1992 when he regularly played lead writer Jerry on HBO's The Larry Sanders Show . He left the show in season two. In 1993 he portrayed George Costanza in the show-within-a-show scene in the Seinfeld episode The Pilot . Piven was from 1995 a member of the ensemble in the last three seasons of the comedy series Ellen with Ellen DeGeneres in the lead role. He also starred and produced the short-lived ABC drama series Cupid, and voiced Elongated Man in three episodes of Justice League Unlimited .

Piven played the role of acting agent Ari Gold on the HBO series Entourage from 2004 to 2011 , a role for which he was nominated four times for Emmy and won three times in a row. In 2015 he revived the role in the movie of the same name . In 2008 he received a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor for this role . Piven previously appeared in the short-lived ABC drama series Cupid , and was a brief appearance in the music video for Drivin 'Me Wild by Common , with whom he co- starred in Smokin' Aces . On August 3, 2009, he made a one-off appearance on WWE Monday Night RAW as a "Special Guest Host". Since 2013 he has played the lead role in the British television series Mr Selfridge .
