Marc Abraham
Marc Abraham (born May 28, 1949 ) is an American film producer , screenwriter , film director , actor and former president of Strike Entertainment .
Career
Abraham began his career as a copywriter for Young & Rubicam in New York City after graduating from the University of Virginia . He left the advertising industry to pursue a writing career and worked as a freelance sports journalist for various newspapers and magazines. He also wrote two books on the International Olympic Games for Universal Press.
Abraham's career in film began with the documentary Playing to Win , a glimpse into the Cuban sports system. He wrote several scripts for film companies such as 20th Century Fox , Warner Bros. Entertainment, and CBS . He has also written scripts for series such as 21 Jump Street - Tatort Klassenzimmer and The Model and the Snoop .
He was one of the founding partners with Armyan Bernstein at Beacon Communications, a finance and manufacturing company founded in 1990.
Abraham released the film Flash of Genius in 2008 , which was his directorial debut. Film stars like Greg Kinnear and Lauren Graham played in it . Abraham also produced Trouble is My Business , an adaptation of Raymond Chandler's classic, for Universal Pictures . He also produced the remake of That Thing From Another World for Strike Entertainment.
Even after Strike Entertainment closed in 2013, Abraham and Newman produced the film RoboCop under the Strike Entertainment name since production began in 2012 .
In 2015 Abraham directed the biopic I Saw the Light . It's about country singer Hank Williams , played by actor Tom Hiddleston . The film is based on the 1994 book Hank Williams: The Biography by Colin Escott.
Beacon Pictures
During his early years, Beacon Communications produced films such as The Commitments , which was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 1992 . In a co-production with Turner Pictures, Abraham was executive producer on David Mamet's A Life in the Theater .
Strike entertainment
Abraham and film producer Eric Newman founded Strike Entertainment in 2002. They produced films like Welcome to the Jungle (2003), Slither (2006), Flash of Genius (2008), The Thing (2011) and RoboCop (2014) under Strike's production name.
In March 2013, Abraham and Newman dissolved Strike Entertainment after eleven years. Abraham and Newman said the partnership just went its way and the breakup was amicable. They will continue to work on projects together.
Awards
Abraham is a member of the Writer's Guild, Producer's Guild, and on the board of the Virginia Film Festival and Violence Policy Center . He was honored with the Spirit of Chrysalis Award, which recognizes Abraham for helping thousands of disadvantaged and homeless people and families in Los Angeles .
