action

At the beginning of the film you see a meteorite crashing into a forest near the tranquil American town of Wheelsy. A resident of the town - the wealthy Mr. Grant - is frustrated after a sexual rejection of his wife Starla and tries to distract himself with an old acquaintance in the local pub. During a nocturnal walk through the forest, he comes into contact with an organism that invades Grant and from then on influences his being up to the point of physical mutation. Strange things keep happening in the sleepy town. A young woman disappears, along with many pets and farm animals, of which only body parts and traces of blood remain. Sheriff Bill Pardy, with the help of Grant's wife Starla and the teenager Kylie, finds out that there is an ancient alien organism behind it, which is slowly expanding and devouring all life.

Grant, as the host of the organism, takes over the entire city and turns its inhabitants into bloodthirsty, acid-spitting zombies under his control. When he kidnaps Starla, Bill and Kylie attempt a rescue. In a final fight they kill Grant, who has since mutated into a tentacle monster, by blowing him up with propane gas. This will also "deactivate" the zombies.

After the credits you see a cat just before it becomes the new host for the organism.

criticism

“The film proves to be a happy homage to the science fiction genre and its trash traditions, the trivial display values of which are adapted to today's Hollywood standards. Genre motifs are lined up with disarming openness to demonstrate their unbroken effectiveness in a mixture of holy seriousness and flirtatious winking. "

“One of those horror films that mistake disgust for joke. Here there is cheerfully splashing around without meaning or understanding and bathing in blood. What was funny with Peter Jackson in works like "Bad Taste" and "Braindead" seems stupid and annoying here. For fans only "
